Welcome!

The ReConnstruction Center is a non-profit organization, a building materials "Goodwill Store", which uses the proceeds from the sales of donated building materials to support other community non profit organizations. We are a community resource offering affordable building materials to public, including new homeowners, landlords, and to those that can ill afford new, stabilizing and improving neighborhoods, and preserving artifacts of our archetectural and manufacturing heritage.

Come in and shop for new, used, antique, and surplus building materials in our 6,500 square-foot showroom and warehouse. As a non-profit organization we rely on a small paid staff and help from volunteers who share our vision. Please click here to learn how you can make a tax-deductible donation of money, services or reusable building materials. Thanks for visiting and helping us in our quest to become Central Connecticut's Premier Building Materiials ReUse store, the place to find quality building materials at a fraction of the retail price!

Come to our very first fundraiser!

As far as I know, this is our first fundraiser ever. We are very excited about it. Carlene, our volunteer secretary, and her husband, Bob, belong to the Quartette Club. Carlene is spearheading this project for us (thank you Carlene!). I am soliciting donations for sauce, pasta, meats and soft drinks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Urban Oaks Organic Farm has already agreed to supply us with whatever we need for a green salad. If you aren't already aware of this oasis in the city, you are in for a real treat! Here is a teaser:

This is a salad Farmer Mike prepared for a birthday party the other night. It includes his award winning arugula, spinach and plenty of citrus fruit along with kiwi, onions, cranberries and nuts. I can't promise our salad will look anything like this but know that whatever he grows is organic and healthy. Check out their facebook page and photos! Also, there will be Ben & Jerry's for dessert. I'm working on some kind of entertainment (perhaps) and maybe a slide show but the main event will be sharing pasta with all of you. Ten dollars is a reasonable price folks. I promise you the food will be good. I stand behind the cause, as you know already. Come on out and help us out. Write to Doug on the website if you have questions or call the store.

1/20/2012: A lovely old 1920 vintage Jewett baby grand piano was donated to the Center some time ago. The exterior is in original condition but the guts are in wonderful shape. We would love to have it tuned for us. We would also love to locate a music teacher who would be willing to give lessons to local children who might otherwise not be able to afford them. Interested in tuning or teaching? Know anyone else who might be? If so, shoot me an email or call/stop in at the store.

New to the store: two sinks of interest:

Double basin 50's basement laundry/work sink; great condition. only needs legs. $80.

Vintage cast iron trough wall sink. Needs a good cleaning. Be the first to see its condition. $75.

Looking for cabinetry? We have oak, birch, maple and laminates in stock in full sets, partial sets, and orphans.

Four samples:

and vintage pine:

This amazing maple hutch was donated last week. Very pretty. Needs glass shelving for interior. Asking $500.

For fans (like me) of all things mid-century, check out this side board. Just arrived this afternoon (12/17/11). Asking $100. Original finish. Needs a little tlc.

Just in (12/30/2011), a lovely Beaux Arts Sconce by Robert Abbey, Inc. in Dark Antique Rust with Frosted Seeded Amber Shades. Model no. 9865 (discontinued). Purchased two years ago, never used. It currently retails for about $175. Reconn's price $100. This is a mood light. When lit, it gives a beautiful soft amber glow. Must be seen lit to be truly appreciated. Would be perfect for craftsmen style or other eclectic use.

Are you aware that we are a not-for-profit corporation? Consider making a tax deductible financial donation to The Reconnstruction Center before the end of the year. Our need is great after making this major move to a larger space. The move was very costly and we lost most of the month of November which is typically our biggest sales month. We are struggling at the moment and can really use the help. Whatever you can spare will truly make a difference. Feel free to call if you have any questions...or come in and talk to Doug. If you would like to talk to a board member, I can put you in touch with someone....
